Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth and adults with disabilities as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give someone a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen! The Kiwanis Club of Issaquah has organized a community meeting to talk about Aktion Clubs. We want to hear from advocates, family members, educators, service providers and friends of people with disabilities as we plan for the launch of our new club.
Aktion Clubs are service leadership programs of local Kiwanis Clubs. Aktion Clubs provide adults living with disabilities the opportunity to develop leadership and initiative, serve their community, be integrated into society, and demonstrate the dignity and value of citizens living with disabilities. Aktion Club members are Kiwanians and benefit by actively participating in community life; contributing to the community; developing abilities, leadership skills, and social awareness; improving self esteem and achieving personal goals. The Kiwanis Club of Issaquah has made a commitment to charter and support an Aktion Club because we care about citizens with disabilities. We are excited about the opportunity to welcome new Kiwanians, develop new relationships, and serve in the community side-by-side with adults living with disabilities.
